Functional Genomics of Thyroid Hormone Signaling Thyroid hormone (TH) is made by thyroid gland from iodine, and circulates in all tissues. It binds to nuclear receptors (TRα1 or TRβ1/2, collectively called TRs) present in all cell types, and directly activates the transcription of a large number of genes. TH is required for fetal development and adult homeostasis, notably in brain. By combining mouse genetics and genome-wide gene expression analysis, we try to understand TRs function in the developing and adult brain. The identification of TR target genes appears as an original approach to unravel the underlying genetic programs.
