Professor Position (ENS de LYON) associated with the IGFL

We are seeking applications for a Professor Position at the IGFL.

The ENS de Lyon is recruiting a Professor to be appointed to the Institut de Génomique Fonctionnelle de Lyon (IGFL – more information page 2). Talented scientists leading animal-based research falling within the scientific mission of the Institute, and who have the relevant pre-requisites, may apply.

Teaching profile

The professor will carry out teaching within the ENS Lyon Biology department in molecular ecology and bio-informatics. He/she will also take part in other Biology department courses in a coordinated manner with other faculty members. The professor may also be involved in teaching at Lyon University. The courses will be given to Bachelor and Master students as well as to aggregation (SV/STU) students. Teaching will involve lectures, practical courses and tutorials of Bachelor and Master students and a high level of proficiency with the French language will be a strong asset.


The successful candidate will carry out his/her research at the IGFL, a laboratory at the ENS of Lyon. The development of an independent ground-breaking research activity is expected, that (i) should fit one of the main research axes of the IGFL (See details at, and (ii) would create new synergies with other teams of the laboratory. Experience in interdisciplinary research would be strongly appreciated.

The IGFL develops research activities at the interface of evolutionary biology, developmental biology and integrative physiology (“evo-devo-physio”) and uses a broad variety of model and non-model organisms as well as fossils to tackle biological questions covering the following fields: 1. Evolutionary genomics and macroevolution; 2. Mechanisms of development and regeneration; 3. Integrative physiology and physiopathology.

The Professorship is a permanent tenured position. The salary scale (see ‘gross salaries’ section) is determined by a national government agency so pay does not vary from one university to another.

The working conditions in the highly selective Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon are particularly attractive.

The Institut de Génomique Fonctionnelle de Lyon (IGFL) has a unique scientific profile and fosters an outstanding international environment. The IGFL is currently composed of 110 members and 12 independent research groups housed in a new building on the multidisciplinary ENS de Lyon campus in Gerland ( within the Université de Lyon site (the second largest French University).

IGFL researchers have full access to state-of-the-art core services, including high throughput sequencing technologies, X-Ray microtomography, 2D and 3D imaging and morphometrics, transgenic animal facilities (mouse, fish, drosophila etc), bioinformatics, mass spectrometry, proteomics, FACS sorting, live cell imaging and electron microscopy.
