A. Khila, group leader of "Genomics for Development and Evolution" team, in collaboration with McGill and Toronto universities, has shown that, in a semi-aquatic insect, the specialization of the male antennae into hook allows it to grip and therefore to resist female attempts to reject him during premating struggles, ensuring transmission of his genes to future generations. This elegant and comprehensive study was published in "Science" of this month.
