Skin (dermis), cell-matrix interactions in development, ageing and physiopathology of classical Ehlers-Danlos syndrome

Collagen V is a minor component of skin that plays a crucial role in the control of collagen I fibrils nucleation and growth. Mutations in collagen V genes leads to a rare connective tissue disease, the classic Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDSc) which is characterized by soft and hyperextensible skin, impaired wound healing with atrophic scars. By combining in vitro (protein-protein interactions), ex vivo (human and murine fibroblasts) and in vivo (mouse) approaches, our project aims at analyzing (1) the biological properties of collagen V and its derived domains in normal and diseased skin and (2) the role of microenvironment in dermal fibroblast behavior.
